DISABILTY INFORMATION RESOURCE CENTRE  

The primary aim of the Disability and Information Resource Centre is to collect and disseminate disability related information to member organisations, disability organisations, local and international NGO's, Government and private sector and particularly individual persons and their families in Sri Lanka .

The centre will provide high quality information that is relevant accurate and up to date in giving technical advice, best practice, monitoring and evaluation tools and advice and referral services all aimed at supporting people with disability to realise more of their potential and to enjoy equal rights as citizens throughout Sri Lanka .

Main Services  

Provision of advice and referral for people with disabilities and their families .

e.g. on employment and vocational training, education services, residential and specialist services, entitlements and rights as a result of National Policies etc

National and Local policies relating to disability issues.

e.g. up to date information on policies including National Policy on disability in Sri Lanka .

Disability information library.

e.g. a range of training and support manuals and books, from a variety of sources, that gives advice, information and guidance in delivering best practice.

Organisational learning and exchange between disability organisations and broader development agencies in Sri Lanka .

By raising disability awareness and addressing the information needs of key stakeholders in the development sector, the Information Resource Centre will be well placed to support the inclusion of disability issues and measures into mainstream development programmes.

Supporting the Training and Development programmes conducted by the Disability Organisations Joint Front.

The Disability Information Resource Centre will have available all relevant information relating to the Training and Development Programmes conducted for the member organisations. Including a calendar for forth-coming training and development events.

Support for research initiatives and data collection about disability issues in Sri Lanka .

The centre will be well placed to provide resources for research initiatives related to disability and health and well being in Sri Lanka . It will also be able to support and facilitate research collaborations with the aim of developing the capacity of NGO's working within the field of disability.

To provide best practice examples of accessible design for the built environment.  

e.g. up to date International and National information on Accessibility Guide lines 

To provide demonstrations of assistive devices that would be of benefit to people with disability.

The Disability Information Resource Centre will be in a position to show assistive devices and mobility aids that can be used by people with disability.

The Disability Information Resource Centre will maintain its web-page with all up to date information that supports the above and gives other general information.
